WHY WORK EXPERIENCE REALLY WORKS
When work experience works well it can be a life changing moment in a young person’s life.
It exposes someone whose only workplace has been their school 🏫 , to a whole new world 🌎 ...and plays a major part in shaping their ‘what next?’ decisions.
Hetvi has just had such an experience with a wonderful team of people at DBFB. I first met Hetvi at a presentation I gave at Abbeyfield School and she then contacted me to ask if I could organise some work experience for her in an accounts role. She was thinking about going to university to do Business and Finance and wanted to get a bit of a taster for that work.
Sam Lee saw my post on LinkedIn seeking support, and he fixed up for Hetvi to spend some time at DBFB in the recent half-term. In a nice ‘join up the circle’ kind of thing, I had worked with and supported Sam when he first started out in his career and now, as a director of a well known and respected business, he was able to support someone starting their own career. It’s great when that happens. I organised for Hetvi to spend 3 days in the accounts department at DBFB, a communications company based in Northampton. Working with Robyn, DBFB’s Management Accountant, Hetvi had first hand experience of purchase ledger, 🧾sales ledger, credit controlling 💷data entry 💻and reconciliations. I spoke with Hetvi last night and she said ‘I really enjoyed the work experience at DBFB. Everyone was so nice and I got to do so many different things. It has really helped me to know that accounts is what I want to do at university’. I know that Hetvi and DBFB will be keeping in touch in case there are opportunities for her to get involved again....so it looks like the work experience was a winning experience for everyone.
