Dale spent a brilliant morning at Garth Hill College recently, working with 6th form students from 7 local state schools as part of Wellington College’s Student Alliance programme.

The focus?

Supporting students who are considering Apprenticeships as their post A Level pathway.

Across three sessions, we covered:

💻 How to write a great first CV

👊 How to absolutely smash your interview

🔗 LinkedIn for students

One standout moment was working with Saul, a Year 13 student who works part-time at Nando's UK & IRE. Together, we unpacked the huge range of transferable skills he’s already developed.....from communication and teamwork to handling pressure and customer service....all of which he can confidently showcase in his upcoming interviews. He's got so many skills from his part time job he can barely hold onto them all!

The feedback from the day was great:

💬 “All students from all schools got so much from this session and it will help all of them with their CVs, interviews and LinkedIn profiles as they go forward on their post-18 journey.”

Sarah Dethick, Careers Co-ordinator at Garth Hill College

💬 “It was very informative. The way that Dale described things was really easy to remember. It helped a lot with misconceptions that he cleared up, e.g. using a photo on your CV. Dale was so keen to help.”

Something Dale hadn’t fully appreciated before this work, is the scale of support Wellington College provides to 27 local partner schools through their Student Alliance programme.

For example, the very next day they were supporting students from local schools who are applying to study Law at university.

We are really interested to learn whether other schools or organisations are delivering this kind of sustained, practical support to students across a range of schools in their local communities.

Dale delivered a workshop at Wellington College on applying for Degree Apprenticeships a few weeks earlier, so it’s been fantastic to work with their team across multiple sessions.

He is now looking forward to being back at Wellington College in June for their ‘Life Beyond VI Form’ Week.

Huge thanks to Lucy Allen for organising this and to Sarah Dethick for being such a great host at Garth Hill College.
