What a brilliant and inspiring day! đ
Some events actually give you far more than you can possibly bring yourselfâŚâŚand this was absolutely the case for me this weekend, at the âEmpowering Youthâ conference run by the Northampton Swahili Group.
First up, colossal amounts of admiration for Qais Majid - an incredible young man who saw that there was a need for his community to have better access to information about aspirational career paths, and so he set up and ran a full dayâs programme to make a difference. And over 150 turned up! Incredible! đ
I had the privilege of being invited to join Nafeesah Chaudhry as one of 2 speakers for the event. Nafeesah did a brilliant job of giving everyone a really clear understanding of university applications and then how to really shine at interviews. I shared information on degree apprenticeships and personal branding.
Listen, this was one of the most up-lifting events Iâve ever had the opportunity to speak at. So many young people and their parents were eager for information. The community spirit absolutely filled the room.
I chatted with an inspiring group a young people, some of whom had graduated with great degrees, and had then returned to Northampton but had been unable to find opportunities outside of warehouse work. I canât let that be, so Iâm going to figure out how I can help them.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to come and chat, who subsequently connected on LinkedIn/Instagram, or who has messaged sinceâŚ.it was such a pleasure to meet you, and it was a brilliant way to spend a Saturday.
