Degree Apprenticeship Coaching Success

Recently Dale shared on LinkedIn about the 🎓 Degree Apprenticeship Application Coaching workshops My Great First Job ran for the East Midlands Education Trust?
Well he recently received a message that perfectly sums up why those sessions matter.
Jacob Brand-Rea, one of the Year 13 students who attended has now secured a Degree Apprenticeship with a world renowned engineering company.
After the EMET session, Jacob reached out and asked if Dale could support him through the interview process. They met online for a couple of 1-2-1 coaching sessions, and he has now messaged to say he’s been offered the job.
We at My Great first Job are absolutely thrilled for him. 👏
When Dale asked Jacob how the work we did together had helped, he said something that really stuck with Dale:
He’d thought about Degree Apprenticeships before the EMET workshop…but after attending the session, he knew that was the route he wanted to pursue.
From our coaching, he said the biggest lessons were:
• Read the instructions carefully 🔍
• Keep everything simple
• Understand the company’s core values and behaviours
• Know your stories……especially from the activities you do outside school 📖
We worked on identifying the evidence from his sport, leadership and personal projects.
We practiced how to weave personal stories into a pretty technical presentation.
In the end, it wasn’t about using jargon....it was about helping the employer see the young man behind the A Levels.
Jacob shared this with me:
“Dale opened my eyes to what it takes to be a strong candidate for a Degree Apprenticeship - from setting up a LinkedIn account to unpicking an interview brief. His expertise and experience have proved incredibly beneficial for me in this process.”
And here’s the important part:
If the Multi Academy Trust had not brought six schools together to share the cost of that session…if that room at Kimberley School hadn’t been full of students exploring Degree Apprenticeships seriously…Jacob might not now be preparing to start his career with a world-leading engineering brand.
That is the power of giving Apprenticeship applicants the same visibility, structure and confidence that university applicants receive.
If you’re part of a Multi Academy Trust and want to level the playing field for your A Level students who are applying for Higher and Degree Apprenticeships…. in a way that is financially viable across your schools then I’d love to talk.
One shared event. Shared cost. Life-changing outcome.
